Directed by Martin Gooch and an advisory council of sector stakehoders, the Value Chain Management Centre assists in enhancing the competitiveness of the agricultural and agri-food sectors in Ontario and across Canada, and promotes adoption of value chain business approaches.
Centre objectives include
- increasing industry awareness of value chain management practices
- coordinating research and analysis from a systems-based perspective, working with the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph
- disseminating the results of research completed at the Centre to producers, processors, associations and government agencies

The terms “Value Chain” and “Value Chain Management” are used to describe a business strategy that enables businesses, wherever they are situated in relation to the end market, to improve their long-term profitability and competitiveness.
