The George Morris Centre is pleased to announce the establishment of a new initiative, our

Directed by Martin Gooch and an advisory council of sector stakehoders, the Centre assists in enhancing the competitiveness of Ontario and Canada's agricultural and agri-food sector, and promotes adoption of value chain business approaches.

Centre objectives include
  • increasing industry awareness of value chain management practices
  • coordinating research and analysis from a systems-based perspective, working with the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph
  • disseminating the results of research completed at the Centre to producers, processors, associations and government agencies

The terms “Value Chain” and “Value Chain Management” are used to describe a business strategy that enables businesses, wherever they are situated in relation to the end market, to improve their long-term profitability and competitiveness. They are strategies that allows companies to continually adapt to their changing surroundings, and to innovate in terms of product and process.


We now have available two training tools to assist in creating or strengthening value chains. The DVD set and the CD-ROM both include information from eleven value chains around the globe that have significantly improved farmers’ competitiveness and profitability. The DVD set includes live footage and the CD-ROM contains written case studies from these value chains.
